Sister Nebraska: Ramadan Replay

Sister Nebraska: Ramadan Replay

I’m Muslim. I’m also from Nebraska. This sounds like it should be the punchline to a joke. My quest for mutual understanding in the reddest of the red states is often funny. Sometimes, it’s inspiring.
Newsflash of the century: Ramadan is coming up.
It’s my third Ramadan ever. Sometimes I feel like I’ve always been Muslim, but other times it feels like I’m still flailing around, trying to find my way. Thanks to the lunar calendar, I associate Ramadan with football, because it was Husker football time the first time I fasted. This ended up being perfect: that year, the night of [...]

The Story of Bayazid Bustami

The Story of Bayazid Bustami

A long time ago there was a young boy named Bayazid Bustami. He was born in Persia, an ancient land of plains, mountains and poetry.
Being the only son of a poor, widowed mother, he was the light of her eyes and she rested all her hopes for the future on him. She dedicated her life to giving him the best she could, but because she was poor, she couldn’t afford much.
As the small boy grew older, she scraped together what money she could and sent him to the local school where he could learn to read and write. While he [...]

Change. Change. Change.
A major problem among people isn’t that we don’t want to change, but that we don’t think we can. We think it’s too late to fix our mistakes or to re-evaluate the way we’re living our lives. But once one reads the biography of the honored and revered Malcolm X, we can all see that with will a person can become whoever they want to be despite their past.
For a large part of his life, especially when he was a member of the Nation of Islam, Malcolm X believed that the only way to achieve rights for [...]

The legacy of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) does not start from his first revelation that began his prophethood, nor does it start from his birth – but it starts from Ibrahim (Abraham) (AS) and his journey into Egypt. It is with that fated journey with the Will of Allah (SWT) that a man would be born who will change the world.

There was a beautiful woman who wanted to get married, and desired to have a very pious husband. She decided that she’ll marry the man who recites the whole Qur’an every single day, fasts for the whole year, and stays awake and worships Allah all throughout the night.
Her comeliness was astounding and a great number of suitors wanted to marry her, but they knew they couldn’t fulfill the conditions she set… Until this one man stepped forward and said he could fulfill them. So, the Imam married them to each [...]

I woke up suddenly one night,
and saw a strange light in my room….
The problem is that the lights are off.
I saw the clock, it was 3:30 in the morning.
Okay… so where is all this light coming from?
———-
I turned around and saw something very strange..
My body was half way through the wall! (?!?)
I immediately pulled it out and sat down to see if I’m okay.
This is strange…
I tried to push onto the wall, but my arm goes through!!
———-
I heard a sound.
I turned to my brother’s bed to see him sleeping.
I was really [...]

Life in Fast Forward…

Life in Fast Forward…

I thought about writing this article as I was making myself tea. I was thinking about how fast time goes by. I was reminiscing of a time sitting with my friends.  I could hear the laughter like it was yesterday, the conversation like it was today. That memory is not because of how good of a memory I have because I can assure you my memory always fail me. The memory is so clear and vivid because how fast the time rushes past us. This memory was of two years back.
Time frightens me. It is hard to imagine that with [...]

From Qisas.com
A person came crying and weeping to Shaikh Shiblee and said, ‘O Shaikh, I have destroyed myself; make supplication for me that may Allah take me away from this world.’
People whose relationship with Allah is strong will never ever dream of committing suicide. Those people who enjoy the pleasures of this world – alcohol, drug, women, dubbing, etc. – are the people who will ultimately, want to commit suicide because they will get sick of this world. Those who enjoy the pleasures of this world by committing sins will be surrounded by problems from all four sides. [...]
