What’s a Muslim girl to do away from home and in a completely new environment? Here’s some tips and tricks that I figured out while living on campus for my first year at college.

A common struggle most Muslim girls face is keeping their hair healthy and in great condition despite it being covered. Many people tend to assume that hijabis don’t pay as much attention to their hair as other women do. But the fact of the matter is that we do get to flaunt our hair every once in a while during family get togethers, women-only events and such, and we even like to keep it looking and feeling pretty if we’re just chilling at home. This is why I’ve decided to [...]

The cool kids over at StyleIslam have put together a package of gorgeous desktop backgrounds featuring vectors of young muslim women wearing the hijab. There are seven different wallpapers, and each one displays a Muslimah with a unique style or appearance. Personally, when I saw these wallpapers, I felt so inspired by them and reminded that a hijabi can look fierce the modest way. Keeping them as your desktop and seeing them everyday will definitely give you a boost in the pride, confidence, and strength you already have as a young woman wearing the hijab.
Each wallpaper comes in five different [...]

Although I’m only fifteen years old, I’ve had a lot of life experiences. When I was twelve years old, my family and I moved to Europe, to a tiny place on a map called Bosnia and Herzegovina. My father had gotten a new job and it was based in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia.
When I first learned that I was moving overseas, I was overwhelmed with fear. The basic moving questions popped into my head: “What if I don’t make any friends?”, “What school am I going to attend?”,“Do they speak English?”, etc. But as I started doing my [...]

Clothes to wear to the mosque?

Clothes to wear to the mosque?

One lady told me that when praying to Allah or at the mosque, you are not allowed to wear jeans. So my question is if I go to the mosque to pray, what should I wear? Can I wear loosefitting jeans, a loose fitting longsleeve shirt and a hijab? Is that fine?
Like these jeans and this shirt, with the top of the shirt covered with a hijab like this?
Is that ok for the mosque?
Salamu alaikum sister!
When you go to the mosque, you must not wear clothing that reveals the form or shape of your body. While each piece you showed [...]

Struggling to find info as a new convert

Struggling to find info as a new convert

I had a question about what happens after someone converts. I know of some places of worship around where I am but haven’t gone inside. The one I went to I couldn’t get in that day. And the next time I went the side door was open but I didn’t go in as I was doing something else. But what happens if you convert say on your own? Or you convert during what someone says is purgatory? And what about what the people were saying about the different sects of being muslim? I have [...]

I’m pretty sure this is the intro to the whole college experience: choosing your major.
Picking your major is a pretty important decision. Though you do have the opportunity to switch majors a year or two into undergraduate school once you get a feel for what you want to study, you do so at the cost of losing at least a semester, prolonging the amount of time before you get your bachelor’s degree. And, seeing as how I’ve regarded my life as a constant and ongoing battle with time, I really don’t have a semester to lose.
This decision really hasn’t been [...]
