Day 10/30: The Meccans’ Treatment of Prophet Muhammad (SAW)

Day 10/30: The Meccans’ Treatment of Prophet Muhammad (SAW)

When Prophet Muhammad started acknowledging and preaching Islam, the natives of Mecca got aggravated. At that time, Meccans were ignorant and backwards, worshiping idols and reluctant to hear the message of Islam. The natives of Mecca held prejudiced beliefs against the Prophet and insisted on ridding Mecca of him. They would alienate and abuse him on a day to day basis.
Many times the Holy Prophet couldn’t even step out of his house, because the leaders of Mecca had set out traps for him. Even though there were so many challenges to Prophet Muhammad staying and preaching [...]

When we are born, two faculties are created alongside us as challenges to make us vulnerable to committing crimes: Shaytan and Nafs. Shaytan, or Satan, has existed even before the Creation of Man and it is his job to invite us to do sinful things until our death. To further describe his duties, he is to coax you into following your nafs.

Muhammad began to meditate in the cave of Mount Hira to escape the corruption of Mecca and dwell on the deepest questions of life to which he could not seem to find answers. It is well known that he spent the entire month of Ramadan at this familiar retreat. It was then, in the year 610 A.D, that Allah changed the course of history and shed light upon darkness, starting with the man best equipped to enlighten the world: Muhammad .
Gabriel (peace be upon him) filled the cave with light, and Muhammad clearly saw someone with a [...]

Losing Weight Through Islam

Losing Weight Through Islam

The Qur’an is truly the perfect book. Not only is it written so beautifully that it’s incomparable by any other book of religion, but it also has… weight loss tips? Didn’t see that coming, did you?
It seems unfair how easy it is to gain weight and how hard it is to lose it. All of us want to reach a standard of perfection when it comes to our body image: tanned, toned, and tiny. At the same time, we shouldn’t stress ourselves out about it too much! Not only should we remember that modesty is of our faith, [...]

This morning, I awoke to quite a few emails from MuslimGirl.net readers, especially concerning the hijab. I’ve decided to respond to the following email I received because, well, it was the least harsh, and it contains a number of assumptions Americans have of the hijab. The name and email of the sender are hidden out of courtesy.
The Hijab isn’t a fashion statement, the way I see it. It is an article of your faith. By wearing it you set yourself apart from the rest of the American community.
America has always been a melting pot. Each of us [...]

Islam Says Women Are Free… No Matter What the Rest of the World Tells You

Islam Says Women Are Free… No Matter What the Rest of the World Tells You

It will always be obvious to us that Islam is a perfect religion and its followers are imperfect people. Growing up as both a Muslim and Arab has taught me this. Only too many times have I come across the injustice of inequality between man and woman, although Islam has clearly ruled that the sexes are equal in unique ways. Let’s examine the facts.
It is widely known that before Islam, women were considered inferior to men in every aspect; they were more sex objects than anything else, and they were commonly unacknowledged as individual beings. It was a shame for [...]

Imagine yourself immersed in a peaceful dream, in your warm bed, your siblings somberly sleeping in the room next to you… when you’re startled awake with a gun pointed at your face and policemen dragging your kicking and screaming mother onto the cold pavement outside. They’re screaming at you to get up and do as they say, telling you that the house you’ve lived in your entire life is not yours.
Early this morning, two Palestinian families were forced to endure this terror when they were violently evicted from their homes in East Jerusalem.
The Al-Ghawe and Hannoun families awoke before dawn [...]

From Qisas.com
A certain daughter complained to her father about her life and how things have been so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and she wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed that just as one problem was solved another arose.
Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen, filled three pots with water and placed the fire on high. Soon the three pots came to a boil. In one he placed carrots, in the other he placed eggs, and the last he placed ground coffee [...]
