A common struggle most Muslim girls face is keeping their hair healthy and in great condition despite it being covered. Many people tend to assume that hijabis don’t pay as much attention to their hair as other women do. But the fact of the matter is that we do get to flaunt our hair every once in a while during family get togethers, women-only events and such, and we even like to keep it looking and feeling pretty if we’re just chilling at home. This is why I’ve decided to [...]

I absolutely love looking feminine, I always have ever since I was young. Pink girly and frilly things have always appealed to me. Whether it manifested itself in a pinafore dress or a hello kitty pencil case, I always thought that all girls shared this same love of feminine styling as me, until I discovered that quite a few girls rejected feminine looks or thought they wouldn’t suit them!
However, a lot of girls who aren’t very feminine in their dress would like to be so. But where to start? That’s where I come in. [...]

Losing Weight Through Islam

Losing Weight Through Islam

The Qur’an is truly the perfect book. Not only is it written so beautifully that it’s incomparable by any other book of religion, but it also has… weight loss tips? Didn’t see that coming, did you?
It seems unfair how easy it is to gain weight and how hard it is to lose it. All of us want to reach a standard of perfection when it comes to our body image: tanned, toned, and tiny. At the same time, we shouldn’t stress ourselves out about it too much! Not only should we remember that modesty is of our faith, [...]

From brightly-colored sleeveless dresses to tank tops and miniskirts, it seems almost impossible for us Muslim women to follow today’s fashion trends. But just because we don’t adhere to society’s outlook on fashion, doesn’t mean we can’t have any of our own. In fact, the style that we often probably pay attention to the most is the style and appearance of our hijab.  There are many ways we could spice up the look of our hijabs and still appear modest.  One of these ways is through color and decorative designs. Nowadays, it is possible for many to obtain hijabs in a wide variety of [...]

Islam Says Women Are Free… No Matter What the Rest of the World Tells You

Islam Says Women Are Free… No Matter What the Rest of the World Tells You

It will always be obvious to us that Islam is a perfect religion and its followers are imperfect people. Growing up as both a Muslim and Arab has taught me this. Only too many times have I come across the injustice of inequality between man and woman, although Islam has clearly ruled that the sexes are equal in unique ways. Let’s examine the facts.
It is widely known that before Islam, women were considered inferior to men in every aspect; they were more sex objects than anything else, and they were commonly unacknowledged as individual beings. It was a shame for [...]

Hijab? It Protects the Valuable

Hijab? It Protects the Valuable

When I first started wearing hijab full-time, I didn’t think it was a big deal. I constantly wondered why we had to wear hijab in the first place – after all, I would think to myself, it’s just hair. Wouldn’t it have been more prudent (astughfirullah) to command women to cover their faces, instead?
I was wrong, though. Of course I was. And I still clearly remember the event that changed my mind.
A private Islamic school in my community was holding a “Sisters’ Night” – an all-girls night where we would be permitted to don flashy dresses and let our hair [...]
