Ramadan Kareem!
Alhamdulillah! It’s Ramadan! For a lot of us Ramadan falls during the summer holidays which, strangely, makes the fast harder than if we were working or at school. When you are at home, you get bored easily and boredom usually leads me to craving for snacks. So how do you keep yourself busy while respecting your fast?
I always try and do a lot of work around the house, prepare nice food for Iftar with family and friends… But, during Ramadan its also important to focus on Islamic activities, so I decided to show you some of the things I [...]

The year 10 A.H. was one of the most significant years of the Islamic calendar. Leaders and tribes that one could have never imagined would show the least bit of acceptance towards Prophet Muhammad began to embrace Islam as their faith, and multitudes of people were turning to the religion of Allah . The light of Islam was spreading and touching the lives of people in the greatest and most unimaginable ways. It was this year that Prophet Muhammad would embark on his pilgrimage, presenting the world with an example of pilgrimage and leaving them with words [...]

Prophet Muhammad said: When Allah created Paradise, He said to Jibreel (AS), ‘Go and look at it.’ Jibreel (AS) went, and returned, saying, ‘O Lord! By Thy might, no one who hears of it will fail to enter it.’
Allah then surrounded it with disagreeable things, and said, ‘Go and look at it now.’ Jibreel (AS) went, and returned, saying, ‘O Lord! By Thy might, I am afraid that no one will enter it.’
When Allah created Hell, He said to Jibreel (AS), ‘Go and look at it.’ Jibreel (AS) went, and returned, saying, ‘O Lord! By Thy [...]

To Eat the Flesh of His Dead Brother

To Eat the Flesh of His Dead Brother

Sitting with my mother on the sofa with a remote control in my hand, I had the honor of watching an incredibly powerful and deeply moving lecture. This opinion might not be shared by everyone, but my life changed within the thirty minutes of the scholar speaking about two of the Major Sins which we might find ourselves indulging in every day: Backbiting and Gossiping. I must be honest, the many times I have heard these two words, distinguishing between them was a difficult task. Backbiting and gossiping seemed to blend into the same definition. [...]

Zakah: Purification of the Soul

Zakah: Purification of the Soul

When I was gardening with my mother in the front yard, planting blooming flowers or slender vines, my hands were getting the worst of it.  The result of our efforts was magnificent – or as magnificent as we could make it – and our hard work paid off.  Each morning we would have an evolving garden to look forward to.  However, at the completion of our task, we found our hands covered with mud and nails darkened with the result of our labor.  Without doubt, I was not going to march in, prop open the fridge, take out the leftovers, [...]

Paper in the Islamic Empire

Paper in the Islamic Empire

Paper (or in Arabic, waraqa), a material which is used for so many things in our lives, can trace back its origins to over 2000 years ago in China. However, the Islamic Empire was responsible for spreading the use of paper throughout the world and sparked the start of its use in Europe hundreds of years later after Muslims established paper mills in Spain. It was because of the Muslim discovery of paper that it would begin to have widespread use across Asia and Africa, and eventually reach and be used in Europe earlier than it would have otherwise.
Muslims most [...]

Spreading the Message in Mecca

Spreading the Message in Mecca

Muhammad began to meditate in the cave of Mount Hira to escape the corruption of Mecca and dwell on the deepest questions of life to which he could not seem to find answers. It is well known that he spent the entire month of Ramadan at this familiar retreat. It was then, in the year 610 A.D, that Allah changed the course of history and shed light upon darkness, starting with the man best equipped to enlighten the world: Muhammad .
Gabriel (peace be upon him) filled the cave with light, and Muhammad clearly saw someone with a [...]

Losing Weight Through Islam

Losing Weight Through Islam

The Qur’an is truly the perfect book. Not only is it written so beautifully that it’s incomparable by any other book of religion, but it also has… weight loss tips? Didn’t see that coming, did you?
It seems unfair how easy it is to gain weight and how hard it is to lose it. All of us want to reach a standard of perfection when it comes to our body image: tanned, toned, and tiny. At the same time, we shouldn’t stress ourselves out about it too much! Not only should we remember that modesty is of our faith, [...]
